A Party in Every Plate We Send Out.

Casa Milagro is scratch-made Mexican cooking built for celebration — hand-pressed tortillas, a twenty-eight-ingredient mole that takes three days to build, and a dining room strung with papel picado every single night, not just on Cinco de Mayo.

Our Story

Named for a grandmother who never measured anything.

Milagros "Mila" Castañeda ran a six-table fonda in Guanajuato for thirty years, cooking mole by feel and teaching no one her exact ratios. When her grandson Emiliano Cruz moved to Austin, he spent two years turning her memory into a recipe he could actually write down.

He opened Casa Milagro in 2016 with his sister Renata on the line, named for the abuela who started it and the strings of papel picado that used to hang over her doorway on every saint's day — which is why ours never come down.

— The Cruz family

From the Kitchen

"Abuela never wrote anything down. It took me two years to turn her mole into something I could actually teach a line cook."

Renata Cruz Executive Chef & co-owner, granddaughter of founder Milagros Castañeda
